Your First Dental Appointment

What To Expect During Your First Dental Appointment

Your first dental appointment at a new dental practice doesn’t have to be an anxiety-provoking experience. At Dechter & Moy Dentistry, we are not only dental professionals but also professionals at making you feel relaxed and safe in our office. Our team is attentive to your needs, and here to help you navigate through your first dental appointment with our doctors. Here are some things to expect during your first dental appointment at our Silver Spring, MD dentist office.

Dental exam

A standard dental exam at our practice is performed by one of our skilled team members. They will evaluate the current condition of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. Periodontal screenings are performed to judge the health of your gums and to determine if there are any signs or symptoms of gum disease progression. Additionally, we will provide an oral cancer screening. During the dental exam, if you have any questions or concerns, be sure to voice them to our team members. They are here to help you better understand your dental health and provide resources for you to achieve your dream smile.

Dental cleaning

A dental cleaning is performed if needed. Most patients should receive a dental cleaning if it has been over six months since they’ve seen a professional dentist. During the dental cleaning, our team members will remove any plaque or tartar buildup on your dental structures. Plaque and tartar buildup occurs when food residue has hardened to your dental structures. The bacteria in the food residue will eat away at your dental enamel and your soft tissues, causing major dental concerns if allowed to remain on your teeth for too long. This is why scheduling routine dental appointments with your local dentist’s office are so important. We are here to help catch minor dental issues like plaque and tartar before they develop into major dental concerns like gum disease progression or tooth loss.

Consultation with Dr. Dechter or Dr. Moy

The final portion of your appointment will be a consultation with one of our skilled doctors, Dr. Dechter or Dr. Moy. They will evaluate your teeth one more time to make sure everything is good to go. If any dental concerns were noted by one of our team members, they will consult with you on your treatment options. This is a great time to ask any questions you might have about bettering your dental health or elective cosmetic treatments that you are interested in. Rest assured that they can help you with any of your dental health needs.

Don’t be afraid to schedule your first dental appointment with Dechter & Moy Dentistry. Schedule an appointment online, or contact our office directly if you have questions. We look forward to seeing you soon.
