Dental Crowns

Crowns in a Day

If you have ever had crowns, you are doubtless familiar with messy dental impressions and long process of waiting for the crown to be made and placed. A damaged tooth can really impact your lifestyle, so the long wait is even more frustrating. Dr. Alan Dechter and Dr. Matthew Moy use the most modern dental technology and are proud to offer same-day dental crowns.

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a sort of cap placed over the remains of a damaged tooth. The most common reason to get a crown is to repair a large cavity, but they can also be used to treat cracked or broken teeth, excessive wear, or an otherwise weak tooth. Crowns can also support a dental bridge or cosmetically treat a permanently discolored tooth.

What is CEREC?

CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is a CAD/CAM dental technology that replaces dental impressions and makes restorative dentistry easier and more comfortable than ever before.

How CEREC Works

CEREC is a digital imaging system combined with computer design software. The chair-side machine replaces traditional messy impressions by taking highly detailed digital images of your teeth and mouth. Drs. Alan Dechter and Matthew Moy will use these “digital impressions” to plan the shape and placement of your crown. The digital plan will be sent to our in-office milling machine and made out of high quality dental ceramic color-matched to your mouth, and your dentist will fit your crown – all in one day.

The Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

The damage a crown is repairing can often be painful and make eating difficult. CEREC is perfect for providing a fast treatment, allowing you to get back to your life as quickly as possible. Although some patients have questions about the quality of CEREC crowns, a ten-year NIH study showed that CEREC crowns were as durable as ceramic crowns made using traditional methods. There really are no downsides to crowns in a day!
